Winners of an international triathlon to be held in Cebu will bring home medals and trophies made by world-renowned Cebuano designer Kenneth Cobonpue.

Cobunpue played with the concept of the race’s three events—swimming, biking and running – for this year’s 2013 Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines on August 4.

The design is made of metal and rubber intertwined into a continuous loop.

The design was unveiled during the press conference launching at the Makati Shangri-la earlier this month which was attended by Cobunpue and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza.

The medals will be produced by Cobonpue while the trophies will be produced by Suarez & Sons.

Cobonpue, who said he worked on the concept for two months, hopes to top the medal design that he made last year which was voted the best looking medal for 2012 next to the London Olympic medals. When Cobunpue was commissioned to design the Ironman medals, he said he wanted something unique that would remind participants of Cebu.

Cobunpue’s contemporary furniture designs have won awards in international contests and attracted celebrity clients.

Recently, Malacañang announced that Cobunpue will be designing the interiors of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as part of the P2.8 billion rehabilitation of terminal 1. Cobonpue’s group offered their services for free. The architectural firm of Leandro V. Locsin was awarded the contract to redesign NAIA-1 two years ago.
