Games today:
Smart-Araneta
2 p.m. – UE vs. UP
4 p.m. – La Salle vs. NU
THREE teams that are locked in a four-way logjam in the middle of the standings will try to break free as they battle in the final weekend of the first round of eliminations in the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The University of the East (UE) Red Warriors take on the hapless University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the curtain-raiser while the La Salle Green Archers battle the National University (NU) Bulldogs in the main game set for a 4 pm tip-off.
UE, La Salle and NU all share third place with the Adamson Soaring Falcons with similar win-loss marks of 3-3.
UP, on the other hand, continues to rack up one loss after another dating back to last season and remains winless in this tournament after six outings.
The undefeated Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws lead the pack with a 6-0 record while the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers own second place with their 4-2 record.
Meanwhile, NU hopes to right the ship after suffering two straight losses but will be challenged to do so against the Archers, who are coming off a controversial 70-67 win over Adamson last Thursday. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
