Thunderstorm alert up in Metro Manila, nearby provinces

MANILA, Philippines—Metro Manila and nearby provinces were warned of thunderstorms by the state weather bureau Friday evening.

“Thunderstorm is affecting Metro Manila, Bulacan, Tarlac, Zambales, Rizal, portions of Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Quezon, Laguna, Batangas and nearby areas within two hours,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in a thunderstorm advisory at 6:25p.m.

Residents in these areas were also advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods.

A low pressure area continued to hover General Santos City, Pagasa said in a separate weather bulletin.

The LPA, was last observed 380 kilometers east of General Santos City, embedded along an intertropical convergence zone affecting Mindanao.

The regions of Caraga, Davao and Soccksargen will experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, Pagasa said.

Central and Eastern Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, it added.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

“Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over the western section of Northern and Central Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough,” it said.

“Light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to southeast will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to northwest over Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be with slight to moderate,” it added.
