As in the previous shooting incidents, the assailants managed to flee on a motorcycle despite the police checkpoints set up in key places in the Manila suburb.
P02 Eduardo Cabalo said Martinez, 47, a personal assistant of TV game show host Willie Revillame, was shot in the back by two unidentified men who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle around 8 a.m. Martinez was waiting for a taxi on P. Guevarra Road in Barangay Little Baguio when the assailants arrived.
Cabalo said the two men demanded Martinez’s cell phone, but he refused to give it to them and ran away. The assailants then fired at him and fled in the direction of Shaw Boulevard.
According to witnesses in the area, the victim was saying, “Not me, not me” before he was shot.
Martinez was taken to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, where he was undergoing treatment for at least two gunshot wounds in the back.
At least five .45-caliber shells were recovered at the scene.
It was the third shooting in San Juan in a week’s time. On Saturday, Colegio de San Juan de Letran basketball player Franz Daysam was wounded and his live-in partner, Joan Sorda, was killed in an ambush as their vehicle passed through N. Domingo Street.
Four days later, a cockfight financier and her driver were wounded when three men in police uniforms opened fire on their vehicle at the corner of San Miguel and F. Manalo Streets. A stray bullet killed a man who was repairing his jeepney nearby.
