Japanese nabbed for fraud charges

A JAPANESE National who is wanted for fraud charges in his country was arrested in his rented apartment in barangay Casili, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

Oyama Takajiro, 42, possessed an expired passport when operatives of the intelligence section of the Bureau of Immigration arrested him in RRD Apartment in sitio Cambiojan yesterday afternoon.

Takajiro’s passport expired in 2010. He is set to be deported today.

According to BI officials, Takajiro is wanted for fraud charges in Japan for duping the authorities in Fukuoka City.

In 2005, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Fukuoka City leaving thousands of families homeless.

Earthquake victims each received 1.5 million yen in financial assistance.

During the distribution of financial aid, Takajiro allegedly used the names of two of his countrymen and made it appear that they were qualified to receive cash assistance.

It was later found out that the houses of the two Japanese nationals were not among those destroyed during the earthquake.

Takajiro allegedly fled from Japan after receiving the financial assistance.
