Fire in Pasay City destroys 250 houses

MANILA, Philippines—The fire that hit a shanty community in Pasay City Wednesday afternoon has been put out, the National Capital Region-Bureau of Fire Protection said.

Fire Officer 3 Owen Ferrera said fire swept through several houses on Abelo Cruz Street in Malibay, Pasay City past 1 p.m. It reached Task Force Bravo before it was put out at 5:44 p.m.

A radio report quoted Pasay fire marshal, Chief Inspector Douglas Guiyab as saying that 250 houses made of light materials from villages 157, 162 and 165 were destroyed from the fire, which allegedly started at the house of one Nimfa Renol.

The report also said 20 classrooms from a nearby elementary school were affected.
