2 witnesses in missing drugs, money facing perjury raps

MANILA, Philippines – Members of the police team who recaptured two fugitive Chinese drug convicts in San Juan last week are set to file charges against the two witnesses for allegedly giving false statements.

Speaking to reporters, Senior Superintendent Jose Mario Espino said they are set to file perjury charges against Roy Delvo Miralles and one alias “Dino” for giving “false” information.

Espino earlier identified Miralles and Dino as the two witnesses who claimed that there were millions of cash and illegal drugs confiscated from the rented house of Li Lan Yan a.k.a. Jackson Dy and Wang Li Na by a team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

But the operatives allegedly did not state the seized pieces of evidence in their report.

“Our reputations were destroyed,” Espino said in behalf of his 19-man team that was involved in the operation.

He reiterated no drugs and money were confiscated during the operation on Jackson Dy and Wang Li Na’s residence.

“The house was clean. Why would they keep contrabands there considering that these could just add up to their cases? And if there, indeed, were items recovered, why would we not present these so we will have additional accomplishment on our part?” Espino said in Filipino.

“We want to clear our names,” he added.
