GUN-MAKING IN DANAO

MORE than a month after a gun factory in Danao City, northern Cebu was raided, police are checking reports of individuals clandestinely making guns in remote parts of the  city.

Chief Insp. Alvin Balio,  Danao City police chief, said gunmakers have resorted to  guerrilla style manufacturing of guns because they have no other means of livelihood.

Last June 29, police raided a building occupied by the Workers League of Danao Multipurpose Cooperative (WOLRD-MPC) where P5 million worth of guns and equipment were seized.

Police also arrested 16 gunmakers during the raid. They  were later released after posting bail, said Balio.

The raid was made after the cooperative’s business permit expired in December last year./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
