UE stops La Salle

3 p.m. – FEU vs. Adamson

THE UNIVERSITY of the East Red Warriors upset the La Salle Green Archers, 74-69, in the 74th UAAP basketball tournament yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum.

The win improved UE’s record to 2-7 (win-loss) and at the same time dampened La Salle’s hopes of bagging a slot in the Final Four as it dropped them to 4-5.

UE’s only win this season came against the National University Bulldogs.

Current King Warrior Paul Zamar played his heart out in yesterday’s game as he tallied 19 points, two rebounds and two assists. He also made two key plays down the stretch that enabled them to preserve the much-needed victory.

First, he made a looping floater over the outstretched arms of two La Salle defenders that put UE on top by 10, 67-57. Then, with the Green Archers threatening at 64-70, Zamar drove into the teeth of the La Salle defense and kicked the ball out to JM Noble, who canned a long two with just 40.2 seconds left./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
