THE NEOPHYTE basketball team of Cebu Daily News (CDN) takes on one of the most established ballclub in local basketball as the Siloys play the Chester Cokaliong-led Cebu Eastern College Basketball Alumni Association (Cecaba) All-Stars in an exhibition match today at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.
While the Siloys will be playing just their fourth game since it was formed last month, the Easternians are on their 26th exhibition match.
In those goodwill games, Cecaba won 19 games, lost six and had one game that ended up in a draw.
However, the Easternians haven’t played an exhibition game since Oct. 3, 2010, where they dumped the Teletech Titans, 113-95.
As a new team, the Siloys are still groping for form but have shown improvement in their last two outings.
Ushering in the exhibition game is the shooting competitions with the dreaded shooter Cokaliong gunning for his 22nd three-point crown.
Other three-point shootout contestants are are Ryan Alexis Mendez and Mark Bukiron of Cecaba and CDN’s Jonas Panerio, Calvin Cordova and Renato Lagunay.
Cecaba’s bets for the two-ball competition are Dean Dy Teves and Bukiron; Chester and Christopher Cokaliong; and Mendez and Joseph James Yu. CDN will have Johnny Tabuco and Lagunay; Neil Tecson and Jay Labra; and Dale Rosal and Christopher Caruana.
