MANILA, Philippines—The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring rains on Monday to portions of the Visayas and Mindanao while generally good weather will prevail over the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, where President Aquino will deliver his State of the Nation Address (Sona) in the afternoon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the National Capital Region could expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon and evening.
Forecaster Fernando Cada said the ITCZ, which results from the convergence of trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, will bring light to moderate rains to Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao.
In its 5 p.m. forecast on Sunday, Pagasa said it expected moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest to prevail over the western section of southern Luzon, where coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to southeast with slight to moderate seas, the weather bureau predicted.—Jeannette I. Andrade
