LEAGUE OF CITIES POLLS QUESTIONED
CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama is asking the League of Cities of the Philippines to review the conduct of the group’s elections last Friday.
Rama claimed there were “irregularities” in the conduct of the elections of its new set of officers during its 60th general assembly.
He questioned the participation of former league president and former San Fernando City mayor Oscar Rodriguez who presided over the assembly and the election of new officers.
Rodriguez already ended his term as San Fernando mayor and is now the elected congressman of the third district of Pampanga.
“Irregular to nga assembly. Irregular sad to nga election. How can it be regular when you have an assembly presided by non mayors? How can it be a regular election?” Rama asked.
But to his dismay, Rama said, he was only told that Rodriguez was presiding over the assembly on a “holdover” capacity and the election went on.
“There is no holdover provision in the constitution and by laws,” said Rama.
Quezon City mayor Herbert Baustista won as the new league president during the conduct of a “consensus” election. Bautista and members of his slate were not challenged in Friday’s election.
In the absence of qualified officials to preside over the league assembly, the proper thing to do Rama said was to elect an interim committee to administer especially the conduct of the league election./Correspondent Edison A. delos Angeles
NUTRITIOUS FOOD FOR BPO AGENTS
THE National Nutrition Council in Central Visayas (NNC 7) is encouraging all call center companies to provide more nutritious food in their canteens.
The Nutrition Council gave the advice after the Population Commission (PopCOm) and the University of San Carlos survey showed that most call center agents in Cebu City are eating unhealthy food rather than nutritious food.
Susan Orpilla of NNC said this is because most call center canteens are not serving nutritious food.
The survey was conducted last year on around 1,200 call center agents./Correspondent Joy Cherry Quito
