San Fernando Team A notches three victories

Secures lead after three rounds in Cebu Province chess

Woodpushers  from San Fernando Team A chalked up 9.5 points to take the lead in the first three rounds of the Cebu Province Inter-Town Chess Cup of the Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan  at the legislative building of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

San Fernando Team A finished the third round with a 3-1 (win-loss) standing after Adonis Manlise, Glesit Tatoy and Rhona Beth Cabrillas won over Malabuyoc Team B’s Jasper Calimbo, Regina Catherine Quiñanola and Marian Calimbo. Malabuyoc’s only win was by  Glybel Jane Quiñanola, who beat Joshua Sombillo.

Danao Team A trails San Fernando A after bagging 8.5 points coming off three wins after round three. Boiet Lao, Alphard and Alphecca Gonzales defeated Jazelle Villarin, Jeremy Rose Bajo and Bob Allosada of Malabuyoc Team A . Marie Cecille Lumapac prevented a sweep with a win against Danao’s Carl Niño Capul.

Malabuyoc Team B, Sogod and San Fernando Team B are all tied with 8.0 points while Carcar and Malabuyoc Team A have 7.5  and 7.0 points, respectively.

Eighteen towns from southern and northern Cebu are competing in this tournament, which is planned to be held yearly.

The remaining four rounds of the seven-round Swiss system tournament will be played today. Cash prizes, medals and trophies will be given to the winners.
