LAPU-LAPU City and the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa will once again make history as it will be the venue where the Philippine Davis Cuppers will be given a special award for their commitment to the Davis Cup.
This was announced yesterday by Randy Villanueva, Philippine Davis Cup administrator, during an informal press conference at the Fiji restaurant of Plantation Bay.
The awarding will be made to coincide with the Group 2 finals between the Philippines and New Zealand on September, the winner of which will move on to Group 1 next year.
The recognition will be part of the centenniary celebration of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) this year in cooperation with the Davis Cup.
To be recognized are Johnny Jose and Johnny Arcilla for their commitment to Philippine Davis Cup. Villanueva said they are looking at a third awardee but will make the announcement later.
Efren Belarmino, the outgoing general manager of the Plantation Bay, said they are very much honored to be once again part of another milestone.
Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Harry Radaza, meanwhile, said that this event exemplifies the commitment of the Lapu-Lapu City government to the Oponganons. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
