“EXPECT some changes.”
This was the message of Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III to the province’s vice mayors who paid him a courtesy call yesterday.
Davide told the officials that his current administration will be different from that of former governor Gwendolyn Garcia, especially in handling the province’s financial assistance to towns.
“They might expect me to do the same things in the time of Gwen where the province gives money to towns. I told them no. They should expect some changes because we have different ways,” he told reporters at the Provincial Capitol.
Alcantara Vice Mayor Beatriz Caburnay during the meeting asked the governor for additional funds for the celebration of their town fiesta next month.
Reportedly, towns whose officials were “close” to Garcia were given P100,000 from the province to be spent for fiesta activities.
He said the officials also discussed the potential candidates for president of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VLMP) Cebu Provincial Federation.
Among the frontrunners were Balamban Vice Mayor Rose Binghay and Efren Gica of Dumanjug.
“Basically, they just sounded off their sentiments because according to them, they are non-partisan even before. No political color, they’re solid and united,” he said.
The vice mayors, according to Davide, prefer their next VLMP president to have at least experienced two or three terms serving as vice mayor of his or her respective town or city.
Elections for the next officials of VLMP will be on Aug. 17. /Correspondent Peter L. Romanillos
