PH, Guam soldiers to repair schools, give medical services

The Armed Forces of the Philippines, together with the Guam National Guard (Gung), will conduct a two-day medical and dental activity in support of the 32nd National Reservist Week celebration of the AFP Reserve Force next month.

About 20 medical and dental personnel from the United States will be coming for the activity.

At least 4,000 residents are targeted to benefit from the medical and dental mission that will be held in barangay Poblacion, Pardo, Cebu City on Aug. 27 and in sitio Cantipla, barangay Tabunan, Cebu City on Aug. 28.

Medical personnel from Camp Lapu-Lapu Station Hospital and Naval Forces Central will assist in the activity.

The volunteer doctors, dentists and nurses from the reservist force (7th Regional Community Defense Group, 5th Air Reserve Center and 5th Naval Reserve Command) will also participate.

The Gung team, on the other hand, will renovate classrooms in Poblacion Pardo Elementary School today until Aug. 27.

The team will be assisted by personnel from the Central Command (Centcom) and the 53rd Engineer Brigade.

Lt. Gen. Ralph Villanueva, Centcom commanding general, said the activity aims to strengthen the relations of the Philippines and the United States, which holds jurisdiction over Guam.

Villanueva said the activity also aims to uplift the medical condition of the populace and improve the learning environment of Poblacion Pardo Elementary School.

The turnover of completed classrooms will be held on Aug. 27.

It will be attended by Major Gen. Benny Paulino, the adjutant general of Gung.

Gung is composed of the Guam Army National Guard and the Guam Air National Guard.
