Organizers of the Dota e-sports tournament for a cause trooped to Balamban town in southwest Cebu last month to donate 16 computers to Balamban Central Elementary School and Nangka Elementary School.
Members of the Cebu Centennial Lions Club, Association of Computer Resellers in Cebu, Cheap Rigs and Gamevolution turned over the computers to Balamban Mayor Ace Binghay in a ceremony held last June 27.
The donated items were raised from the proceeds of the Dota tournament held last Feb. 27 to March 1 in Parkmall Mandaue to promote eSports in Cebu.
All funds generated from the tournament will be used to buy IT related educational materials like computers to aid in the development of the IT industry in Cebu.
The electronic sports is still in its infant stages in the Philippines.
In countries like Korea and North America, e-Sports has grown to the level where professional gamers are being paid.
The organizers believe that one day the country will embrace e-sports as a real sport.
