‘No stress, only happy memories for Jan’
FIVE days after being hit on the head with a rock, Jan Niño Pogoy’s condition continues to improve. He still has trouble recalling exactly what happened last Sunday dawn.
“So far, so good. He’s okay, there’s slight improvement,” SPO4 Samuel Pogoy, the victim’s father, told Cebu Daily News in a phone interview.
He said his son can now talk but still has difficulty in doing so.
Jan can sit up in bed with assistance in the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, but he still isn’t allowed to stand up and walk as advised by their doctor.
The elder Pogoy said while they tried to ask his son about what actually happened outside Kwerks bar last Sunday, they’re trying not to stress the boy.
“We asked what happened but he said he cannot remember anything,” the father said.

Witnesses pointed to Cebu City Councilor Gerardo Carillo as the one who struck him, a charge Carillo denies.
SPO4 Pogoy, who is assigned in the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office said he will report back to work tomorrow.
The boy’s mother, Milagros Pogoy, clarified to Cebu Daily News that she didn’t know that the money given by Noel Archival and received by her husband was from Carillo even if they knew that he was the councilor’s lawyer.
“Wala ko kahibaw nga sa councilor to gikan. Abi lang nako nga nihatag si Noel nako isip higala (I didn’t know that the money was from the councilor. I thought it was just given by Noel to me as a friend),” she said.
She said the councilor’s lawyer is a good friend of their family.
“He just said that somebody sponsored. Because we’re friends with Noel, there’s no malice. We also didn’t ask whether it was from the councilor or not because we really needed the money),” she said.
She also confirmed that the lawyer sent more money yesterday to help them settle P15,000 for deposit for their hospital’s room.
“Noel said that the money was sponsored by a donor. We never thought that it was from the councilor),” the mother said.
Milagros said the money given by Archival’s secretary last Wednesday night is still intact.
The additional assistance given yesterday by Archival was used to settle their bills.
The family was advised by their doctor to confine Jan for six weeks to two months until his condition stabilizes.
“But if we don’t have cash, we may be forced to leave the hospital,” Milagros said.
They received financial assistance from donors which went to pay for the patient’s medication.
