AROUND 300 chess enthusiasts from the Visayas region will try to outwit their competition as the third elimination leg of the 21st Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship (SNYACC) gets underway today at the SM City Cebu Event Center.
The annual SNYACC, a legacy project of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, aims to advance their mission of contributing to nation building through youth development and character enrichment.
It’s theme for 2013, “Inspiring the Nation’s Future Leaders”, highlights how chess instills values such as discipline, perseverance, diligence, ingenuity, responsibility and sportsmanship in each participant.
Qualifiers in the Visayas leg will participate in the grand finals slated Sept. 14 to 15 at SM Megamall in Metro Manila.
The two-day SNYACC is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. /Correspondent Mark Tongco
