City library to launch family literacy project

In line with the celebration of the 30th National Children’s Book Day, the Cebu City Public Library, in partnership with Zonta Club of Cebu II and in cooperation with Cebu Normal University- College of Education, will launch its first ever family literacy project in Cebu and in libraries nationwide called “Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya.”

“Basa Pamilya” is a series of 12 weekly lectures and workshops for the underprivileged families with preschool children in targeted barangays in Cebu City. Its goal is to empower parents to become reading and learning advocates by developing their reading and tutoring skills for them to take leadership in their children’s studies.

Lawyer Antonio Santos, director of the National Library of the Philippines, will personally come to witness the event.

There will be a storytelling and puppetry presentation by the students and Zonta Club of Cebu II’s Z Club from Childlink Learning Center after the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Zonta Club of Cebu II president Myrna Cruz Tan and Cebu City Public librarian Rosario Chua.

Zonta Club of Cebu II project coordinator and trainor Wi Suan Tiu invites the public to the launching on July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Cebu City Public Library on Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.
