Rains flood Cebu City streets
HEAVY rains which lasted for nearly two hours flooded some streets of Cebu City, with the entry of typhoon “Huaning” (international name: Soulik) into the country’s area of responsibility last Wednesday.
The Cebu City Integrated Traffic Operations Management (Citom) received reports of flooding in some areas of Cebu City which subsided hours after the rains ended.
These areas include those along Lorega across the market, in Hippodromo MJ Cuenco Avenue, Fuente Osmeña Circle and Sierra Cabahug in J.Luna Street.
“There were slight floods, but it immediately subsided,” CITOM Operations head Joy Tumulak told CDN.
The Safeguard Mabolo Action Response Team (Smart) sent out a firetruck to patrol the city proper.
“The floods were not severe. We also didn’t get additional reports and alarms within the city,” Smart chief Mark Jones dela Cruz said.
Al Quiblat, acting chief of the state weather bureau Pagasa’s Mactan office, said Metro Cebu will continue to experience thunderstorms for the next days due to typhoon “Huaning.” But Quiblat said the typhoon only affects the Batanes area.
At 4 p.m yesterday, the eye of typhoon “Huaning” was located at 690 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.
Moderate to strong winds from the west to southwest will prevail over Northern and Eastern Luzon and Eastern Visayas. The typhoon is expected to exit the country next Sunday. Correspondent Jose Santino Bunachita
