Romana still not reporting as Garbo exits today

WITH PNP Chief Allan Purisima attending his turnover ceremony today, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo still has unfinished business left at the Police Regional Office.
Garbo told reporters that Senior Supt. Noli Romana didn’t report to the Regional Personnel Holding Accountability Unit (RPHAU-7) despite being ordered to do so since Friday last week.
Garbo said he asked his chief of staff, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza to tell Romana to explain in writing why he didn’t report to work yet.
He said Romana may face investigation for going Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) if he continues to ignore his transfer.
Romana, who was picked by Cebu City Mayor Rama to replace Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el as Cebu City police chief, is under investigation for alleged ties to illegal gambling activities in Negros Oriental.
Garbo said he didn’t know if Romana sent any communication to the PRO-7.
He said Romana’s name as candidate for Cebu City police chief is already in Camp Crame to be forwarded to the office of the National Police Commission.
Garbo earlier recommended Romana’s transfer out of Central Visayas, saying he was unsatisfied with Romana’s performance as provincial police chief of Negros Oriental.
Romana declined to comment on Garbo’s recommendation. Garbo will report to Camp Crame as chief of the National Capital Region (NCR), nearly two years after he assumed as PRO-7 chief.
He will be replaced in an acting capacity by Chief Supt. Generoso Cervo, deputy regional director for administration.
Cuervo replaced Senior Supt. Samuel Yordan who was reassigned as chief of Headquarters Security Group at Camp Crame. Correspondent Chito Aragon
