MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has ordered the suspension of the conduct of the validation of voters’ registration records.
Resolution No. 9741 explains that the move was meant to maximize the Comelec workforce in preparing for the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October.
The Comelec ordered the suspension effective Friday “until further ordered to resume by the commission en banc.”
But it stressed that the conduct of voters’ registration for the coming Barangay and SK elections on July 22 to 31, 2013 is still continuing.
The validation of registration records, which started on July 1, involves the capture and submission of biometric data (consisting of digital photos, fingerprints and signatures) of voters without or with incomplete biometrics in the registration record.
Under Comelec Resolution No. 9721, the commission en banc said voters without biometrics data who failed to submit for validation on or before the last day of filing of application for registration for the May 9, 2016, elections shall be deactivated. Tina G. Santos
