MANILA, Philippines – Cezar Mancao who implicated Senator Panfilo Lacson in the death of a publicist and his driver 11 years ago received a P150-million check but the money had nothing to do with the case, the lawyer of the former police officer disclosed Friday.
Ferdinand Topacio told 990AM that Mancao received the amount from a business partner for his work as a real estate broker.
“He and his partner had a transaction where P150-million check has been deposited into the bank account. The account was a joint account of him [Mancao] and his business partner,” Topacio said.
However, Topacio said the check bounced due to insufficiency of funds and the transaction did not push through.
“Have ever heard of bribe money given in check? This is a legitimate transaction but did not push through due to insufficiency of funds,” Topacio said.
Lacson, whom Mancao implicated in the deaths of Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, revealed that a P150-million check was allegedly deposited in the account of Mancao but refused to identify where the money came from.
Mancao was Lacson’s aide when the senator then headed the now defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force.
