MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice gave the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) the go-signal to proceed with its rationalization plan that would axe several divisions of the agency.
In a statement, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said the plan has been on paper since 2005. It was part of the government’s move to “streamline offices and establish more integrated functions.”

“The DOJ is done with its major rationalization plans. We continue to fine-tune the implementation and request for new or revised positions to meet the changing demands of justice work,” De Lima said.
The rationalization plan, De Lima, said seeks to strengthen the body’s Investigative Service using science and technology in crime fighting.
However, sources inside the bureau said rationalization plan will also include the dissolution of several offices include the Death Investigation Division; Anti-Terrorism Unit; Special Task Force; and Reaction, Arrest and Interdiction Division.
The plan will take effect in two months.
