Expect heavy rains in Cebu today and tomorrow.
Huaning, internationally known as Soulik, entered the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday morning. No storm warnings were issued yet by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) as it was too far to directly affect the country.
But Pagasa Mactan weather bureau chief Oscar Tabada last night said a thunderstorm would drench south Cebu especially Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan and Oslob towns.
He said the typhoon will bring heavy rains in Cebu once it enhances the southwest monsoon.
Pagasa said in its advisory that Huaning “is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and will bring rains over the western section of the country.”
Tabada said Metro Cebu will have cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms today and tomorrow.
Cebu will also experience moderate to rough seas, which is dangerous to fishing boats and small seacraft.
As of noon yesterday, the eye of the storm was 1,240 km east of Batanes.
Forecasters said they did not expect the typhoon to make landfall anywhere in the country.
Signal no. 1 was raised in the Batanes Group of Islands yesterday.
Huaning is expected to exit the Philippines Saturday morning and move to northern Taiwan. /Correspondent Christine Emily L. Pantaleon with Inquirer
