Seized marijuana plants, gambling machines destroyed

SEIZED marijuana plants worth around P1 million were destroyed at the grounds of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in barangay Lahug, Cebu City, yesterday morning.

The more than 6,000 marijuana plants that were burned came from different towns and component cities in Cebu.

Sixteen video carrera machines were also destroyed.

The destruction of the illegal items was attended by Chief Supt. Ager Ontog, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7); Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., CPPO chief; Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia; and other provincial officials.

Town police chiefs were also present.

Policemen who were involved in the confiscation of the marijuana plants were given commendations.

Garcia lauded the police for their successful campaign against illegal drugs and assured that the provincial government will continue supporting the police.

The Capitol also turned over two scene of the crime operation (Soco) vans to the CPPO.

The turnover was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement by Garcia, Ontog and Comendador.

Ontog also thanked Governor Garcia for the P500,000 legal assistance given by the province to the police and Armed Forces of the Philippines. CORRESPONDENTS PATRICIA ANDREA PATEÑA AND GABRIEL C. BONJOC
