Eight other Cebu examinees in list of topnotchers

A 20-year-old woman from Mandaue City topped the June 2013 licensure examination for nurses, the first time in two decades for Velez College in Cebu City to produce a topnotcher.

Beverly Anne Felicio Balagon received a rating of 87 percent to lead 67 new nurses who took the 10 highest places in the recent board exam based on results released by the Professional Regulation Commission.

A total of 16,219 out of 37,887 examinees passed the examination held from June 2 to 3.

It was the first time in 20 years that Velez College produced a nursing board topnotcher, said Carol Kangleon, dean of the College of Nursing of Velez College.

Eight other examinees from Cebu’s colleges and universities also made it to the topnotchers’ list. They are:

Romelyn Tagalog Icot of Velez College (6th place, 85.60%)

Nikki Nathasia Caminong Javier of Velez College (7th place, 85.40%)

Sherry Mae Manzanares Ampil of Cebu Normal University (8th place, 85.20%)

Rejenne Gulfan Sotes of Cebu Doctors University (8th place, 85.20%)

Guada Fe Marie Jore Mercado of Cebu Normal University (9th place, 85%)

Marianne Stephanie Brillantes Rosales of Cebu Normal University (10th place, 84.80%)

Kyzia Ann De Guzman Kintanar of Velez College (10th place, 84.80%)

Shiela Aleonar Heruela of Velez College (10th place, 84.80%)

Cebu Normal University shared the top spot with West Visayas State University-La Paz and University of the Philippines-Manila in the list of 10 top performing schools in this year’s examination, the PRC said. All three universities had a passing rate of 100 percent, the PRC said.

Two other Cebu-based institutions made it to the list of top performing schools: Velez College (8th place, 98.01%) and Cebu City Medical Center (9th place, 97.06%). /Christine Emily L. Pantaleon, Correspondent
