In his second week in office, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III is considering three candidates for the province’s police chief post.

He and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale also received Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, outgoing police regional office chief, who came to say farewell before he gets posted in Camp Crame where he is due for promotion.

Magpale said she learned three weeks ago from the general that she was the target of an assasination plot 15 days before the May election.

“I’m hoping that it won’t be carried out because the elections are already over,” she told reporters.

She said Garbo told her that the police already identified the person who claimed he was recruited to kill her in exchange for P500,000.

“Three weeks ago I was given the counter affidavit of the person who mentioned he was part of an assassination plot against me.

“In a light vein, Magpale said she complained to Garbo about “how cheap my life is – only half a million.”

Garbo later confirmed to reporters that the police are investigating reports about an assassination plot on Magpale 15 days before the May polls.

As governor, Davide gets to choose a provincial police chief from a list of five nominees identified by the Philippine National Police.

“I haven’t received the recommendations yet. However there are names being floated. But there is no one yet because they haven’t officially submitted the list to me,” Davide told reporters.
