Woman commits suicide after beating up her son in QC
MANILA, Philippines—A 45-year-old woman hanged herself Saturday afternoon inside her apartment in Quezon City shortly after she beat up her eight-year-old son by hitting him on the head with a brandy bottle.
The body of Marvelina Escandor was found by a neighbor hanging from a beam of her apartment in Barangay Baesa, Project 8. The neighbor had forced open her apartment door upon hearing moans of pain and cries for help from the badly wounded boy.
SPO1 Eric Lazo of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU), said that Escandor’s body was discovered past 1 pm inside the apartment by a Ricardo Arnaiz, who happened to be nearby.
According to Lazo, Arnaiz heard a boy crying for help from inside the apartment. When there was no response to his knocking, Arnaiz and other neighbors forced open the door and stumbled onto the suicide who was hanging from a ceiling beam with a cable wire looped around her neck.
They found the eight-year-old boy with contusions and bruises on the face and forehead and brought him to the nearest hospital for treatment after reporting the suicide to barangay officials.
Lazo said that according to the boy, his mother had hit him with a liquor bottle and beaten him before killing herself. The boy is still undergoing treatment and remains confined at an undisclosed hospital.
