Student hit by gunfire in Sorsogon fun run shooting
NAGA CITY – A female student participating in a fun run in front of one of Bicol’s universities in Sorsogon was hit by a bullet fired by still unknown perpetrators early morning on Sunday, an Army official said.
The fun run, spearheaded by students of Bicol University-Sorsogon Campus, was disrupted when an undetermined number of men among the crowd started firing at still unknown targets at around 7:40 a.m. at Barangay Buenavista, Gubat, Sorsogon, said Lieutenant Colonel Medel Aguilar, acting spokesman of the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division in Bicol, quoting the Gubat police.
The victim was identified by the Gubat Municipal Police as Lian Layog, 17, a resident of Sta. Magdalena, Sorsogon, who was hit by a firearm of unknown caliber on both feet.
She was immediately brought to the nearest hospital for treatment and was declared out of danger, Aguilar said.
Combined elements from Army’s 31st Infantry Battalion and the Gubat police were still determining who were the perpetrators, he also said.
