Man nabbed for assaulting cop, Canadian

A 24-YEAR-OLD man is facing a string of charges after he allegedly boxed a Canadian man and assaulted a policeman in a hotel in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

Alonso Gonzaga Jr., 24, a native of Escalante, Negros Occidental, was drunk during the incident, police said.

Police investigation showed that Gonzaga went to the Pusok Police Station on Friday night to seek help.

Gonzaga asked the police to accompany him to the Bellavista Hotel to pick up his 20-year-old sister whom he said was brought there by Canadian national Eric William Hey, 39.

Police said the Canadian and Gonzaga’s sister were lovers.

At the hotel lobby, Gonzaga confronted Hey and punched him in the face.

PO1 Leo Torres tried to pacify Gonzaga but the man shoved him, ripping off the policeman’s name plate.

Torres’ fellow policemen subdued Gonzaga, who was later detained.

Police said Gonzaga will be charged with alarm and scandal, physical injury, direct assault and drunkenness.

Gonzaga’s sister told police that she was not forced by Hey when she went with him in the hotel.    /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
