Greg’s daughter to chair PB budget committee

SHE’S a neophyte Provincial Board (PB) member but already Gigi Sanchez-Zaballero was asked to chair the powerful budget and appropriations committee.

Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale confirmed appointing Zaballero, daughter of the late vice governor and businessman Greg Sanchez, to head the PB budget and appropriations committee after PB Member Peter John Calderon turned it down.

“The budget and appropriations committee is very important so a member of the majority should get it. I have to be very candid so I offered it to Gigi Sanchez and she said yes,” Magpale said.

Calderon, who’s allied with the Liberal Party-Cebu (LP-Cebu) majority bloc will chair the PB health committee.

Magpale said the appointments were based on the capabilities and expertise of each PB member.

“I consulted them if they want to be retained, some begged off. That was our basis,” she said.

Magpale said the final list of committee chairmanships will be announced in next Monday’s session.

Magpale also said she wants the Provincial Board (PB) to enact an Investment Code for the province and support Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III”s flagship projects on health and agriculture.

On Tuesday, Magpale sent a letter to each PB member to name four members for their respective committees. Correspondent Peter L. Romanillos
