Two young girls, reportedly the children of a businessman, were abducted on their way to school by an armed group who also took their family vehicle Friday morning in Quezon City, prompting a police manhunt that was still in progress as of press time.
The sisters were taken while aboard a green Mitsubishi Adventure (ZGK 141), which was then passing through Regalado Avenue in Fairview around 5 a.m., the Quezon City Police District said, citing the account given by the family driver who escaped unharmed.
Initial reports reaching the QCPD said three armed men who were aboard a white Mitsubishi Montero fired shots at the Adventure’s side mirror, forcing the driver to stop and check the damage.
When the driver got off the vehicle, the assailants approached and pointed their guns at him but the driver managed to run away.
The suspects then took over the Adventure and drove off with the two girls.
QCPD director Senior Supt. Richard Albano declined to give further details, saying a news blackout had been imposed because dragnet operations were still going on.
The QCPD later turned over the case to the Anti-Kidnapping Group of the Philippine National Police based in Camp Crame, after the kidnappers reportedly started demanding ransom for the girls.
