CARPENTER CHARGED
CHARGES of rape with homicide were yesterday filed against the carpenter who was accused of killing a laundry woman in barangay Quiot, Cebu City last Wednesday.
Benedicto Logreno was brought by police to the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office yesterday afternoon for the inquest proceedings, a mandatory procedure after an arrest.
When presented before Assistant City Prosecutor Mario Ley Gidayawan, Logreno, who didn’t have any lawyer, chose not to undergo a preliminary investigation which could have given him a chance to submit a counter-affidavit.
This being so, Gidayawan recommended the filing of the case in court. No bail was recommended.
Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el said the case is considered solved.

WOMAN FACES PARRICIDE RAPS
POLICE filed a parricide charge against the woman who shot dead her husband in Lapu-Lapu City last June 16.
The charge was filed with the Lapu-Lapu City City Prosecutors’ Office yesterday afternoon.
Editha Suliano shot dead her husband Samuel whom she suspected of having an affair with another woman.
Police arrested the woman but eventually released her when no charges were filed against her after the 36-hour detention period.
The couple’s children opted not to file charges against their mother. It was the victim’s siblings who were interested in filing charges against Editha.
“It’s up to the fiscals if they dismiss the case. We tried to convince the victim’s children to act as witnesses but they won’t execute an affidavit, ” said Senior Insp. Zenaido Pastorfide Jr. chief of the Crimes Against Persons Desk of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
