1 killed, 9 hurt in Quezon highway accident

LUCENA CITY, Philippines—One person was killed and nine others were injured in a vehicular accident along the Maharlika Highway in Candelaria, Quezon, Wednesday evening, police said Thursday.

PO2 Arthur Archivald Real, Candelaria police investigator, identified the fatality as Rey Dy Sosa, 42, of Catarman, Northern Samar.

Real said that an Isuzu Forward truck bound for Manila driven by Richard Bulay was traveling along the highways at 10:25 p.m. when it suddenly overtook another vehicle and slammed head-on into a Nissan van on the opposite lane driven by  Sosa.

Sosa died on the spot, police said.

Bulay, his helper and the seven passengers of Sosa’s van sustained various injuries and were rushed by rescuers to the nearest hospital in Candelaria, Real said.
