8 people on way to funeral Mass killed in accident in Cebu

MANILA, Philippines—Eight persons were killed while several others were hurt after the dump truck they were riding toward a church in Cebu province figured in an accident Thursday, police said.

Region 7 police director Chief Superintendent Ager Ontog Jr. said that eight persons were killed at around 1:30 p.m. after the brakes of a dump truck, carrying roughly 50 persons on their way to a funeral Mass in Barangay (village) Balao in Barili town, malfunctioned and caused it to turn turtle.

Thoe fatal victims died on the spot, he said, adding that other passengers of the truck were taken to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Barili District Hospital.—Karen Boncocan, INQUIRER.net
