MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III confirmed Tuesday that he will no longer renew the contract of National Irrigation Administration head Antonio Nangel for his apparently poor performance.

Aquino made the announcement about a week after he reprimanded NIA officials during the agency’s 50th anniversary celebration.

For 23 years, the President said NIA had been receiving 100 percent budget, but was only accomplishing 60 percent of the work.

“Parang halos every year ganoon ang trend nila (it seems like it’s happening every year and its becoming a trend),” Aquino said.
