A surgical, dental and optical mission with blood diagnostic services and health forum was conducted by Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation Inc. – Cebu recently in barangay Poblacion, President Carlos P. Garcia town in Bohol.
Clients, mostly senior citizens lined up for the services despite the scorching heat of the sun. Some of them even had to cross the sea to get to the venue.
A total of 801 indigent residents benefitted from the outreach mission.
During the whole day event, 278 clients aged 40 and above availed of eye refraction and free reading glasses, 110 patients had tooth extraction, 58 boys were circumcised, 38 patients underwent cyst examination and excision and 317 availed of laboratory tests which included blood typing, random blood sugar, and hematocrit/hemoglobin count.
Full dose of antibiotics and analgesics were also dispensed to the surgical and dental patients.
A health forum was also conducted by a volunteer nurse for the eye patients on the management and complications of diabetes and hypertension.
Thirty-five volunteers composed of surgeons, optometrists, dentists, nurses, med techs, social workers and support staff were mobilized to the area to serve the patients.
The outreach mission was sponsored by a devotee of St. Anthony de Padua and a former nurse volunteer of Kapwa now working in Sydney, Australia.
The event was also supported by the Cebu City Medical Center – Surgery Department, Cebu Blood Donors’ Society, Southwestern University – College of Optometry, Sr. Sto. Niño Parish headed by parish priest Fr. Jose Pompei Solana and the Parish Pastoral Council of Pres. Carlos P. Garcia.
