Sharks, Vipers keep unbeaten slate

The Accenture Sharks and the Aegis Vipers downed separate opponents to stay unbeaten in the 2013 E-League for Basketball last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

The Sharks cruised to their fourth straight victory with an 87-81 win over the sputtering Tesltra-Teletech Titans, while the Vipers snatched their third consecutive triumph at the expense of the Kyocera Frontiers, 71-53.

Archie Brian Vincent Batua, Ryan Edward Llanos and Julian Kyle Suerte formed a deadly triumvirate for the Sharks as they combined for 62 points.

Batua totaled 24 points, Llanos came up with 20 markers, while Suerte dumped 18—big numbers that helped the Sharks lead from start to finish. Batua also had 10 rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Edsel Capillanes scored 17 points, Clifford Amarado netted 16, Lorenzo Ruiz piled up 11, while Jaime Antonio Medija contributed 10 but the Titans still couldn’t end their struggles and crashed to their fourth straight defeat.

The Vipers, on the other hand, kept their own unblemished record intact behind Ryan Veloso,  Rodulfo Enterina III and Frederic Yballe, who connived for 31 points.

The Vipers quickly put the game beyond Kyocera’s reach when they closed the first half with a 33-19 lead.

Ariel Ramonito Edera chalked up 15 points, while Randel Tutor added 11 for the Frontiers, who dropped their second straight assignment.

In the other game of the featured triple-header, the Lexmark Stallions rallied past the SSI Warriors, 52-48, for their second win in three games.

Jake Pia paced the Stallions with 12 points. Lexmark trailed SSI at the end of the opening period but stole the upper-hand, 23-20, going into the final half.

The Warriors moved within a point, 36-37, with one quarter to play but the Stallions staged a 15-12 run in the windup to seal four-point victory.

Lawrence Daven Agas had 11 points for the Warrios, who endured their second loss with no victory to show. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
