Boom-Boom to train PAF cadets next

Retired boxer Rey  “Boom-Boom” Bautista will soon be part of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) as trainer for its cadets.

Bautista, who hails from Bohol, said he will be training PAF cadets in boxing, which means he has to spend more time in Baguio City.

The 27-year-old boxer was in Cebu last week to work on the requirements for his formal acceptance to the PAF. He first went to the Cebu City Police Office for a police clearance.

Bautista retired from boxing last April following his split decision defeat to Jose Ramirez in Davao City.

“I have decided to retire because I’m not getting any younger,” said Bautista. “We never can know how long our body can withstand all the hard blows in the boxing ring. I realized I needed to find a more stable job while I still can.”

Bautista has been boxing for a decade. He has a record of 34 wins and three losses.

He started his career in boxing when he was just 17. It was in 2006 that his boxing career took off, in a fight held in the U.S., where he won over Giovanni Andrade in four rounds.

The following year, he scored a back-to-back wins against Marino Montiel and Sergio Manuel Medina.
