‘Gorio’ passes Batangas early Sunday, stormy weather up in metro

MANILA, Philippines—The center of Tropical Storm “Gorio” was estimated in the vicinity of Batangas as of 4 a.m. Sunday, said the latest update from the state weather bureau.

“At 4:00 a.m. Sunday, the center of Tropical Storm “GORIO” was estimated based on all available data in the vicinity of Batangas (14.0°N, 120.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near center and gustiness of up to 80 kph,” said the latest update issued 5 a.m. by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“It is forecast to move west northwest at 26 kph,” it added.

“Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon and the provinces of Pangasinan, Marinduque, Mindoro and Lubang Island will have stormy weather,” Pagasa said.

“Bicol Region, the provinces of La Union, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, Romblon, and the islands of Coron and Calamian Group will experience rains with gusty winds and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough,” it added.

“Palawan, Western and Central Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of Visayas and of Mindanao will be partly cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.” Pagasa said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over Southern Luzon and Visayas and coming from the southeast over the rest of Luzon with moderate to rough seas. Light to moderate winds coming from the southwest will prevail over Mindanao and its coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
