A Korean man was killed while his driver was wounded after they were ambushed by motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Yi Sung Jung, a native of Su Won City in South Korea.
Yi suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Sonny Ubal, 42, resident of Cebu City, was wounded in the right hand.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
The victims were on board a Cadillac SUV which was driven by Ubal.
Senior Insp. Ramil Morpos, chief of the Casuntingan police station, said that while the SUV was traveling along A. S. Fortuna Street, two men on a Honda XRM motorcycle appeared and fired shots.
“Sa akong pagtan-aw, giatngan ra ni sila sa mga suspects (The assailants may have been waiting for the victims to pass by),” Morpos said.
Morpos said that prior to the attack, Yi was with five Koreans in a coffee shop.
The victims were brought to the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital but the Korean did not make it alive.
The SUV was taken into police custody.
Police recovered five empty shells and two deformed slugs for a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
Morpos added that a pack containing white crystalline believed to be shabu, a pack of suspected marijuana, and an ampule of Nubain were found in the SUV.
