Death of Punta teenager probed

POLICE are looking into the death of a 17-year-old boy in barangay Punta Princessa, Cebu City.

An initial report that hazing was the cause of injuries sustained by Jhon Michael Mina is also being investigated.

Other reports said the boy was actually mauled by a still-unidentified party and not his friends, said PO2 Leroy Bagiuo, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office.

The boy arrived home at 5 a.m. with bruises all over the body.

His mother, Mylene, told police that when asked what happened to him, the boy replied, “Nnakapagsuntokan ako (I figured in a fistfight)”
The boy later collapsed.

Mylene and her husband rushed the boy to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) but attending physicians declared him dead.

The boy was the son of Mylene from a previous relationship.

The mother told police that her son went out past 8 p.m. and played computer games in an Internet cafe on Tres de Abril Street.

After bringing the boy to the hospital, the mother said she went to the Internet cafe to check out if her son figured in a fight there.

The mother said she was told that no one saw the boy figuring in a fight and that there were no commotion there./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
