MANILA, Philippines—”Gorio” has intensified into a Tropical Storm as it continues to move closer to Eastern Visayas, the weather bureau posted on its website 11 p.m. Friday.
In its latest weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) said as of 10 p.m. Friday, “Gorio” is at 250 km East of Maasin, Southern Leyte with maximum winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Signal number two is up in the provinces of Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Burias Island, Ticao Island, Samar, Leyte Provinces, Biliran Island, Dinagat Province and Siargao Island, the weather bureau said.
Signal No. 1 is up in the provinces of Quezon, Polillo Island, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz and Northeastern Iloilo.
By Saturday evening it is expected at the vicinity of Catarman, Northern Samar, on Sunday evening in Cabanatuan City and Monday evening at 390 km northwest of Dagupan City, the advisory added.
“Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signals numbers 2 and 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone,” Pagasa said.
“The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 a.m. Saturday,” Pagasa added.
