The Land Transportation Office (LTO) launched a renewed crackdown on erring private emission testing centers (PETC) as she ordered the closure and revocation of licenses of eight more centers for allegedly issuing emission certificates on vehicles without testing.
LTO chief Virginia Torres, in a press statement, also said on Wednesday that more than 50 other testing centers are facing similar sanctions after the central monitoring team reported that they also committed similar offenses.
“I want the public to know that we are serious in our campaign against PETCs even as I am warning other PETCs that are still engaged in this nefarious activity of non-appearance that we will not stop until all of them are closed and only those compliant operators will remain operational,” Torres said.
Emission testing is required before any motor vehicle is allowed to renew its registration.
