Cabahug school transfer will take a long time

LEAVE your school shoes at home and just wear rubber boots.
Students and teachers of the Cesar M. Cabahug Elementary School will just have to continue to grin and bear with the floods as the planned relocation of the school will not happen overnight.
Jamaal James Calipayan, executive secretary of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, said the acquisition of the property where the school will be transferred will have to follow the normal course of government’s procurement process.
He said City Hall is eyeing a 3,135 square meter-lot adjacent to Cesar M. Cabahug Elementary School. Calipayan said the lot is already elevated and they are just awaiting the counter-offer of the property’s owners.
Once they get the counter-offer, a committee of appraisers from City Hall will review the proposal before the process goes to a long series of stages.
Calipayan said just like what happened in the acquisition of the relocation site in barangay Paknaan, the acquisition process started in 2009 and was concluded in 2011.
Moreover, the city government is also looking for ways to address urban migration in sitio Paradise in barangay Looc. Most settlers in sitio Paradise were Tagalog and Ilonggo speaking people. Some were also from Mindanao.
The Cabahug Elementary School situation will be in the agenda when the Local School Board convenes next month.
“Yes, the problem of Looc school will be tackled in the next board meeting. It will be one of the priority topics,” Calipayan said. /Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
