Binay condemns ‘treacherous attack’ on police trainees

MANILA, Philippines– Vice President Jejomar Binay condemned on Friday an early morning ambush on a group of Philippine National Police trainees in Mt. Province, which he described as a “treacherous attack.”

At least one trainee was killed, six were wounded while 24 others were reportedly missing, Binay said, citing initial reports reaching his office.

(Police quoted by INQUIRER.net placed the number of wounded at seven.)

The trainees,he said, were on their regular morning jog and reportedly unarmed when they were ambushed at Sitio Cabunagan, Tadian, Mt. Province.

“The ambush was a treacherous attack,” Binay said in a statement issued by his office.

“The PNP should intensify its pursuit operations and bring the attackers to justice,” he added.

Binay also called for an immediate investigation on the incident.
