COLLEAGUES yesterday bade farewell to members of the 12th City Council of Cebu City who will be pursuing other endeavors when their term ends on June 30.
The City Council passed a resolution expressing commendation and appreciation to Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young, the presiding officer, Councilors Edgardo Labella, Rodrigo Abellanosa, Raul Alcoseba, Ronald Cuenco, Jose Daluz III, Eduard Rama Jr., and Augustus Pe Jr. for “having rendered years of their lives in the service of the Cebuanos ad for the betterment of Cebu City.”
Labella will take over Young’s position via a 184 vote victory in the May 13 election. Abellanosa will represent Cebu City south district in the 16th Congress while Alcoseba will represent the 1st district in the Provincial Board.
Cuenco, Daluz and Rama did not run in the last election while Pe lost.
The approved resolution also mentioned that the eight outgoing officials “ in their capacity as legislators, have become instrumental in the passage of progressive and people-oriented local legislations and have truly worked to ensure that Cebu City remains a truly progressive city which commits itself to good governance, people empowerment and sustainable development.”
Pending the resolution of the election protest which he filed against incoming vice mayor Labella, Young said he intends to focus on his family life and business when his three-year term as vice mayor ends.
Daluz and Rama will be working under the office of re-elected mayor Michael Rama. /Doris C. Bongcac, Chief of Reporters
