MANILA, Philippines – Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares on Wednesday slammed the Supreme Court’s dismissal of their motion questioning the high court’s decision allowing non-marginalized groups to take part in the elections.
In a text message, Colmenares hit SC information chief Theodore Te’s statement and insisted “the motion for reconsideration (MR) was not filed out of time.”
“It was filed within the period allowed by rules for filing MRs (15d from notice) and interventions,” he maintained.
Colmenares called the high court’s decision “unjust” in that the “SC would dismiss or deny the same on mere procedural ground when the issue herein is of transcendental and paramount importance, especially since it deals with representation of the poor and oppressed sectors.”
“This SC decision is anti-poor and the Comelec (Commission on Elections) prostituted the partylist system by allowing fake partylist groups while refusing to MR its decision disqualifying others,” he said.
